15. TUNGSTEN LIGHTS

I dont think houses in U.S. do have any tungsten lights at all, of course except in their bathroomsI I always wondered why no house has 'tube lights' and why their bathrooms are so well lit !

Hi Sam
I do see filaments in the lights at
home and I think they are tungsten filaments. Halogen lights are pretty common and there are long life screw-in type fluorescent lights available these days. As
far as I have seen American's do
not have a preference for tube
lights @ home except in closets
and garage.
They have 110v electricity as opposed to 220v electricity we have in India (am I correct?)

kozhundu sam, and babble,

one reason for we(!) Indians using tubelights could be that it is more economical. a single tube light can brighten up a whole hall but with tungsten lights i think we have to have at least two or three.

Sam, your logic always seems to be just right. In america, we have a slogan which is "bigger is beautiful" in this case so many lights in every corner with dim ligting gives a romantic effect and more beautiful. In stead of, really bright tube lights... which undo your mood of cozyness.

We dont worry about cost of power charge, which is nothing to putting one time gas to a car 25 to 35$ every 3 day once (an economy size cars ONLY-warning not bigger size SUVs or vans which might cost you somewhere between 60 and 75$), though the electricity, in spite of using 3 to 5 lamps per room we pay only 25 to 35$ a month.

how is it? we are POWERFUL :-))) by containing our economy...

In my bathroom believe it or not I have 9 bulbs in a row... dont ask me why? I keep them since it came just like that... now as days pass by I get used to it... oh this is what you call spoilt brats!? hahahaa...

By the way, the pictures are great, where did you take them?

a friend's home at US.

about the lights in the bathroom - i had been to a student-friend's apartment in NY. in his bathroom around a big morror there were many empty bulb sockets leaving just two or three bulbs. he was telling me that he used to wonder why the 'americanos' have so much light in their bathrooms. he had been replacing bulbs in his apartment from the bathroom!
